Colombian Navy rescues four foreigners in the Orinoco River

The timely reaction of a Coast Guard Unit of the Colombian Navy led to safeguarding the lives of three people of Venezuelan nationality who were shipwrecked in the Orinoco River, given that the boat in which they were sailing sank, in a sector close to the village Casuarito, in the department of Vichada.

The events occurred when the Coast Guard personnel, who were carrying out routine border control activities on the Orinoco River, were alerted by the local inhabitants about the emergency of a canoe-type boat that had capsized with three people.

Immediately the personnel of the Colombian Navy began the search and rescue operation after finding, in a sector near Casuarito, three people of Venezuelan nationality floating in the river.

The castaways, after being taken out of the water and their good health was verified, were supported by the military personnel in the recovery of their boat and some of their belongings, which were still floating in the river. They were then towed to a safe location.

The Colombian Navy, through the Eastern Naval Force, will continue to conduct river patrols to safeguard human life, with its units and the training of its men to provide support for any emergency in the Colombian Orinoquia.
