The cargo found would have an approximate commercial cost of 8.7 million pesos.
The material was being transported without the required documentation for its transportation and in a ship that did not meet the requirements established by the maritime authority.
In the framework of maritime search and control operations carried out by the Colombian Navy in the Gulf of Urabá, a cargo of 3.5 tons of cement was found, which was being transported by three adult individuals of Colombian nationality, without complying with the provisions of the current regulations for the management of controlled chemical substances. The material found would have a commercial cost close to 8,750,000 pesos.
The operation was carried out during the execution of a maritime security operation, where units belonging to the Urabá Coast Guard Station inspected a ship that did not have a navigation certificate, registration or visible identification on its hull. During the review, it was identified that it was transporting an amount of cement higher than that allowed by the legal provisions for the transport of this type of material, for which it was immobilized.
The equipment, personnel and the ship were put into custody of the authorities.
The Colombian Navy will continue to carry out maritime and river control operations in the Gulf of Urabá on a sustained basis, with the aim of countering illicit activities associated with the trafficking of precursors and substances submitted to special surveillance, protecting the security and maritime interests of the country.
