During two operations, seven people were arrested: three Panamanian citizens and four Colombians.
A minor was traveling on one of the boats, the minor was put under the protection of the authorities for the restoration of her rights.
This result in the same way prevented the commercialization of more than 242 thousand doses of marijuana on the international illicit market.
The Colombian Navy, in the framework of two operations against drug trafficking in the Colombian Pacific, struck two powerful blows to the illicit activities of transnational organized crime, with the seizure of 1.4 tons of marijuana, preventing this shipment from reaching the international illegal markets.
The first operation was carried out by units of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station, in coordination with the National Police, during control and surveillance tasks in the bay of the Buenaventura Special District. A coastal ship was inspected there, in which nine boxes containing 216 rectangular packages with 317.9 kilograms of marijuana were found by troops.
Nine people of Colombian nationality were traveling on the boat, including a minor. after the Approved Preliminary Identification Test carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the National Police, the nature of the narcotic was confirmed. During this operation, three crew members were arrested, who were put into custody of the authority, while the minor was handed over to the Children and Adolescents Police for the restoration of her rights.
The second operation was carried out thanks to information provided by Naval Intelligence about a go fast type ship, which was sailing suspiciously 45 nautical miles from Buenaventura. Immediately, Rapid Reaction units of the Coast Guard Station carried out the maritime interception procedure.
During the search, 35 sacks were found by troops containing 1,146 packages apparently with illicit substances. There were four crew members on the boat: three Panamanian citizens and one Colombian, who were arrested.
During the transfer to Buenaventura, the ship presented structural damage that, added to adverse weather conditions, caused its sinking. Thanks to the timely reaction of the Colombian Navy personnel, all of its passengers were rescued and the illicit cargo was recovered.
Subsequently, officials of the Technical Investigation Corps - CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office carried out the urgent acts and the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, confirming the positive result for 1,143.7 kilograms of marijuana.
In total, the two operations led to the confiscation of 1,461.6 kilograms of marijuana and the arrest of seven people, who were put into custody of the authority to carry out the respective judicial process.
Through this powerful result of the military operation, the Colombian Navy affected the finances of drug trafficking organizations by more than 15 million dollars and prevented the commercialization of more than 242 thousand doses of marijuana on the international illicit market, weakening the illicit activities that finance transnational organized crime and contributing to the strengthening of maritime security in the Colombian Pacific.
