In the framework of naval operations carried out by units of the Colombian Navy in the department of Valle del Cauca, it was possible to confiscate about a ton of marijuana, which was transported on board a boat manned by two individuals of Panamanian nationality.
Thanks to information provided by Naval Intelligence, which alerted about the activity of a boat that was traveling suspiciously in the waters of the central Pacific, units afloat of the Coast Guard Station of Buenaventura moved to the area, in order to carry out the relevant procedures.
When carrying out the maritime interception operation, it was evident that the ship was transporting 10 plastic barrels with fuel, communication equipment and 34 bags that, due to their characteristics, would resemble illicit substances.
During the procedure, it was evident that the boat had structural faults related to excess weight, a situation that, added to the adverse meteorological conditions in the area, compromised its stability and ended up causing its sinking.
Immediately, thanks to the quick reaction of the members of the Military Forces, it was possible to rescue the personnel and recover the items, which were taken to facilities of the Naval Institution, where personnel of the Judicial and Criminal Investigation Section - SIJIN (JUDICIAL POLICE), conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, determining that it was 801 kilograms of marijuana.
Through this result, the entry of eight million dollars into the finances of criminal structures and the marketing of 132 thousand doses of narcotics on the streets of the world were prevented.
The Colombian Navy reaffirms its commitment to the fight against drug trafficking, contributing to keeping the Colombian Pacific free of transnational crimes that menace the tranquility and free development of communities.
