In the last few hours, units of the Colombian Navy, attached to the Coast Guard Station of Coveñas, supported the mitigation efforts of a fire that occurred in the municipality of Puerto Caracol, on Isla Múcura, an insular area of the San Bernardo Archipelago, in the department of Bolívar.
The emergency occurred in the afternoon hours of Friday, but thanks to the constant control and surveillance efforts carried out by the Colombian Navy, within the framework of the Acorazado Plan, a conflagration was detected in this insular region, approximately 25 nautical miles (46 kilometers) from Coveñas, department of Sucre.
Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit – URR of the Coast Guard was sent, which, in coordination with the tourist productive groups of the area, collected fire extinguishers that were provided by the surrounding hotels, in order to take them to the place of the emergency. Later, the Colombian Sailors traveled to the municipality of Tolú - Sucre, in order to pick up Fire Department personnel and transport it to Isla Múcura.
