Colombian Navy supports local cashew nut and honey producers

arc_1.jpg

In an inter-institutional effort led by the Colombian Navy, the Government of Vichada, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the National Institute of Food and Drug Surveillance - INVIMA and the Colombian Agricultural Institute - ICA transported four tons of cashew nuts and honey from Puerto Carreño to the capital city of the country, with the support of the Colombian Aerospace Force, in order to facilitate local producers the commercialization of their products in national and international markets, thus promoting the social and economic development of the region.

This initiative is an comprehensive part of the River Campaign to Support Development by Sailing to the Heart of the Orinoquia, which is led by the Colombian Navy in this area of the country for the fourth consecutive year, and is the result of a series of meetings, instructions and the effort of a group of small producers of Vichada who, together with the local, departmental and national institutions, bet on the improvement and certification of these agricultural products, making them more competitive.

In this way, transporting 2.5 tons of cashew nuts and 1.5 tons of honey constitutes the first achievement of a process of social and economic strengthening that leads the peasants of the Orinoquia region to take their products of the distant lands of the department of Vichada department to the center of the country and from there to other world cities.

“Thanks to the fact that we have a safe region today, we can produce cashew nuts with which we contribute to the social, environmental and economic recovery of this area of the country. I thank the Colombian Navy for transporting our final product to the capital city of the country, because it will lead all the peasant families involved to obtain higher incomes and alliances,” said Diego Fernando Solano, an official of Kardianuts.
