In the Pacific waters, interception of three ships with more than 1.6 tons of narcotics.
During the operations, three individuals of Panamanian nationality and four of Colombian nationality were arrested.
As part of the operations carried out by the Colombian Navy against the transnational crime of drug trafficking, it was possible to intercept three ships carrying 1,639 kilograms of narcotics at sea in the Colombian Pacific.
The first operation took place 75 nautical miles of the Buenaventura Special District, and began after receiving information from Naval Intelligence, which alerted about a ship manned by a Panamanian and a Colombian, who were traveling suspiciously in the waters of the central Pacific. Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit – URR was deployed, which moved to the said area to intercept the boat, finding on board 431.2 kilograms of marijuana, 100 gallons of fuel and communications equipment.
In the second operation, a ship of the Pacific Naval Force detected a ship manned by two Colombians, who were sailing 5 nautical miles of its position. After initiating the maritime interception procedure, the crew of the boat started to escape by conducting evasive maneuvers; however, thanks to the quick reaction of the members of the Military Forces, it was possible to intercept the ship, finding on board 569.4 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and some communication equipment.
Finally, in the third operation with intelligence support, a unit of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station intercepted a ship manned by two Panamanian and one Colombian, who were 45 nautical miles of the main Colombian Pacific port. During the search, 628.7 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, 10 kilograms of marijuana and communication equipment were found by troops.
The arrested personnel and the illegal goods were taken along with the boats to the facilities of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station, where the corresponding tests were carried out and they were put into custody of the authorities.
Through these results, the Naval Institution prevented the entry of more than 60 million dollars into the finances of drug trafficking organizations, as well as the marketing of more than three million doses of narcotics on the streets of the world.
The Colombian Navy reaffirms its commitment to the protection of communities and the lawful use of the sea in the Colombian Pacific, maintaining a constant deployment of its differential resources to confront drug trafficking and other transnational crimes.
