cogfm-armada-de-colombia-buque-gloria-15.jpg

The ARC Training Ship Gloria arrives in Halifax as part of the celebration of 70 years of bilateral relations between Canada and Colombia.

It will be at the pier Discovery Centre from August 15 to 18 and will receive visitors between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m.

After sailing for more than 2400 nautical miles for 20 days, the ARC Training Ship Gloria docked in the city of Halifax, Canada, this being the first port for the Instruction and Training Cruise of 69 students of the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla, who sailed from Cartagena on July 25 of this year, within the framework of the celebration of the Naval Bicentenary of the Colombian Navy.

During these 20 days, which represented the first experience of the future officers of the Colombian Navy on the high seas for an extended period of time, the students have carried out their seafaring skills, strengthened their team esprit and obtained knowledge that will be fundamental for their progress in the naval career as officers of the Colombian Navy.

The ARC Training Ship Gloria is a sailboat type brigantine boat, with more than 55 years of history representing Colombia in the seas of the world. It uses the force of the wind to propel most of the time, so a coordinated and precise work is required by the crew and students, fulfilling orders without hesitation, maintaining physical and mental strength and deep knowledge of the function of each maneuver to work to raise the safety of navigation and the punctuality of the itinerary.

During their stay in Halifax, the crew and the students will be honored to welcome all visitors and work to provide them a guided tour through the decks of the ARC Gloria Training Ship, introducing them to the importance of this emblem of our country as a floating ambassador of Colombia in the seas of the world, itinerant sample of the national culture and instruction and training cruise for the students in training of the Colombian Navy. In the same way, cultural events and samples of traditional gastronomy from different regions of the country will be held, as well as events with local and diplomatic authorities in order to strengthen the historical ties of cooperation between the two nations.

On August 18, the Ship will sail to Boston (USA), sailing approximately 400 nautical miles from Halifax and will dock at the Charleston Navy Yard Pier 1 pier, where it will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., from August 22 to 25, carrying out a full agenda of cultural events and protocol events in order to show the best of Colombia, as well as the values represented by Colombian youth who have chosen a naval career as a life project.
