The Colombian Ocean Patrol Ship will be the largest and most technologically complex ship built in the country.
The design is Colombian and currently its construction advances by 38%.
As part of the construction process of the Colombian Ocean Patrol Boat carried out by the Science and Technology Corporation for the development of the Naval, Maritime and River Industry - COTECMAR, the construction of the hull blocks (ship structure) of what will be the largest ship designed and built in Colombia has been completed.
This milestone corresponds to the completion of the construction of the 18 blocks that make up the hull of the ship, where 657 tons of naval steel were used, 63,000 meters of sheet that shaped the hull and 21 tons of welding with the highest precision, complying with the international standards of this industry and under the supervision of the Lloyds Register sorting house and the Colombian Navy.
Currently, the construction of this innovative project is progressing by 38% and will continue with the construction of the superstructure blocks, pipe installation and integration of equipment and systems on board. Its launching into the water will take place in the middle of the year 2025 at the COTECMAR facilities in the Mamonal industrial zone in Cartagena.
This ship reflects the technological independence of the country within the naval and shipyard industry, given that its design, logistics management and construction is led by Colombian talent, thus boosting the national economy, the technical, technological and professional training of the more than 1,100 employees who are part of Cotecmar.
The Corporation will continue to work within the framework of projects that will enable the Colombian Navy and other navies in the region to strengthen their security and defense.
