The Science and Technology Corporation for the development of Naval, Maritime and River Industry (COTECMAR) made the official delivery of the Colombian Ocean Patrol Ship ARC 24 de Julio to the Colombian Navy, a new ship that marks a milestone in naval engineering and consolidates the country as a key player in the shipbuilding industry.
This ship, becomes the largest designed and built so far in Colombia, and is the result of ten years of joint work conducted by the Navy and the Corporation, beginning by its conceptualization to its construction, reflecting the country's vision for its sovereignty and maritime security.
In terms of technology, the ARC 24 de Julio incorporates a modern design and solutions that optimize the safety, efficiency of military operations and the life of the modern ship. On the other hand, during the two and a half years that the construction took, more than 1,070 tons of steel, 11 tons of aluminum and about 90 kilometers of wiring were used, among other technical milestones that reflect Colombia's technological independence, optimizing processes while maintaining the highest standards of the maritime industry worldwide. In the same way, 1,114 direct and 2,228 indirect jobs were generated; and 343 national and international companies participated as suppliers of goods and services.
During the presentation ceremony held at the ARC Bolívar Naval Base, Mr. Vice Admiral Luis Fernando Márquez Velosa, President of Cotecmar, said: “this ship is a tangible demonstration of Colombian talent, the capacity of the national industry and the value of institutional coordination to build complex naval platforms, aligned by international standards and designed to serve the country for decades.
With the presentation of the Colombian Ocean Patrol Ship ARC 24 de Julio, Cotecmar reaffirms its commitment to strategic resources for Colombia, the strengthening of the national industry and the projection of the country as a regional reference in engineering and shipbuilding.
