Within the framework of the Amazonas Plan, the Fourth Brigade has found and intervened several areas disturbed by the illegal extraction of mining deposits in Antioquia.
Within the framework of military operations, troops of the Special Energy and Road Battalion No. 4 of the Fourth Brigade of Colombian National Army, in coordination with the National Unit against Illegal Mining of the National Police, an the intervention of eight units for the illicit extraction of mining deposits in rural area of the municipality of San Rafael, in the eastern subregion of the department Antioquia.
10 diver-type dredgers, 8 air compressor engines, 17 motor pumps were disabled at the site; elements used for this illicit activity. These mining units produced about 450 gr of gold per month, with an approximate cost of 175 million pesos.
In the second military operation, the intervention of another mining unit was carried out in the village of El Ingenio, in San Rafael, where a backhoe loader, a diver-type dredger, an industrial engine, a mineral sorter, 3 motor pumps and an air compressor engine were found by troops and disabled. With the use of these elements, about 3520 gr of gold were produced per month, with a cost of 1372 million pesos.
As a result of this operation, significant economic blow was dealt to the Pacificadores de Samaná substructure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, a group that not only attacks the inhabitants, but in the same way generates serious damages to the environment.
In this way, Colombian National Army will continue to conduct joint, coordinated and inter-institutional operations that contribute to the protection of natural resources, promoting a safe environment for all the inhabitants.
