Decisive operations against environmental crimes in the Colombian Caribbean

Contundencia contra los delitos medioambientales en el Caribe colombiano

In 2025, nine individuals have been arrested and 71 animals of different specimens have been recovered.

 

Working for the protection and conservation of flora and fauna in the Colombian Caribbean, Navy Infantry troops of the Colombian Navy, within the framework of operations coordinated with the National Police, dealt powerful blows in the fight against crimes related to the environment in the departments of Bolívar, Chocó, Córdoba and Sucre.

 

During the operations, 71 animals of different specimens were recovered, such as birds, lizards, iguanas, sloth bears, snakes and tortoises, which had been irregularly removed of their habitat. In the same way, it was possible to immobilize 192 cubic meters of wood, which were being transported without the corresponding permits; nine individuals were arrested in flagrante delicto for alleged crimes against the environment and illegal use of natural and renewable resources.

 

It should be noted that these specimens are not authorized for human consumption and this type of illegal activities directly disturb the conservation of the environment. Similarly,  , weakening the stability of local ecosystems in the Colombian Caribbean. Additionally, the recovered and rescued animals play crucial ecological roles in the biosphere of the region, so the excessive hunting of these specimens puts at risk not only their conservation, but the balance of their habitats.
