During two military control operations, the Colombian Navy, through its Navy Infantry units, immobilized 105 tons of cement on the Magdalena River, in the municipality of Pinillos, Bolivar.
In the first operation, 400 bags with 20 tons of cement were immobilized, when they were transported in a metal ship. Later, in the second operation, 85 tons of cement were found by troops that were being transported on board a tugboat.
During the inspections carried out on the ships, their crew members did not have the documentation required for the transport of this type of material, so it was immobilized and put into custody of the authorities. No arrests were made in the framework of these operations.
It should be noted that cement is a precursor controlled permanently by the authorities for its transport and use, in accordance with the regulations related to the control of substances and chemical products, since these can be used by criminal groups for the extraction, transformation and refining of illicit substances or illegal mining.
The Colombian Navy will continue to carry out search and river control operations in the areas under its responsibility, working for the tranquility of the inhabitants of the Colombian Caribbean. In the same way, it invites people in this region of the country to report in a timely manner and to the authorities any suspicious situation or action that puts the good physical condition of its inhabitants at risk.
