The drug was destined for Central and North American countries. In 2025, Colombian National Army has found more than 12 tons of this hallucinogen in the region.
Thanks to the timely reaction of troops of the Infantry Battalion No. 7 José Hilario López, attached to the Twenty-Ninth Brigade, with the support of the Light Cavalry Group No. 8 and in coordination with the National Police, it was possible to find more than 1,300 kilograms of export-type marijuana. The illegal goods were being transported covertly inside 80 metal pipes used in the petroleum industry.
The result of the military operation was reported at a checkpoint in the village El Hogar, in the municipality of Piendamó, department of Cauca, on a strategic road route that connects the department with Valle del Cauca.
During the inspection, the suspicious behavior of the driver motivated the action of a binomial anti-narcotics trained dog, which alerted about the possible presence of illicit substances in the cargo. Packages with marijuana were found by troops inside, ready to be sent to international markets.
The driver was arrested, the car immobilized and both the material found and the one involved were put into custody of the judicial authorities. This operation represents a powerful blow against illegal armed structures specialized in drug trafficking, directly damaging their sources of financing.
During this year, Colombian National Army troops, through joint, coordinated and inter-institutional operations, have found more than 12 tons of marijuana in the department of Cauca, especially on roads used by drug trafficking networks to transport drugs to the southwest of the country.
