In this activity, 185 tons of humanitarian aid will be distributed.
In a coordinated work conducted by the Colombian Navy, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management - UNGRD and the Civil Defense, 185 tons of Humanitarian Aid will be distributed to the communities hit by the wave caused by rains in 2024, transported by a Surface Unit of the Naval Institution, of the Port of Buenaventura, in the department of Valle del Cauca, to the department of Chocó.
The Colombian Navy transport support was requested by the National Unit for Risk and Disaster Management – UNGRD, in order to move 11,308 Emergency Humanitarian Assistance kits, donated by this institution and by the Turkish Government Cooperation Agency – TIKA, for families hit by heavy rains and floods, which occurred in the second half of last year, in the Choco region pf the Pacific.
For this mission, the Amphibious Landing Ship - ARC Bahía Solano was sent, designed and built for logistical support in the framework of unarmed work operations and disaster response, in coastal areas, providing logistical support, by transporting troops, containers and cargo in general, with a maximum capacity of 200 tons.
The ARC Bahía Solano 1will sail 485 nautical miles and will arrive in port in approximately 10 days, benefiting 50 thousand people of the communities of the municipalities of Bahía Solano, Belén de Docampadó, Juradó, Nuquí, Pizarro and Santa Genoveva de Docordó, with the distribution of food and personal hygiene kits.
