The Colombian Navy, in the framework of joint operations with Colombian National Army and coordinated with the National Police, reported the arrest of eleven alleged members of the Organized Armed Group -GAO- Clan del Golfo, in the departments of Bolivar and Sucre.
In three simultaneous operations, carried out in the village of Guacamayo, a rural area of the municipality of Achí, department of Bolívar, and in the municipality of Majagual, department of Sucre, arrest warrants were issued for the crimes of extortion or arbitrary contributions and association to commit aggravated crimes for extortion purposes.
During the judicial proceedings, eight people were arrested who, apparently, were part of the Erlin Pino Duarte substructure of the GAO Clan del Golfo. Among those arrested are alias Guacamayo, alias Lili and alias Aronis, who would serve as zone ringleaders, responsible for leading various criminal activities such as the collection of illicit rents derived from illegal mining, extortion agaisnt merchants, the sale of narcotics and hitmen in the municipalities of Río Viejo, Puerto Rico de Tiquisio, Montecristo, Regidor and Pinillos in the South of the department of Bolívar.
In the framework of the third operation, in compliance with a vehicular checkpoint on the road that connects the villages of Yati and Santa Fe, in the municipality of Magangué, department of Bolivar, troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.17, the Military Gaula Bolívar and the National Police, reported the arrest in flagrante delicto of one individual and the prison notification of two others, for the crimes of arbitrary contribution and association to commit aggravated crimes for extortion purposes.
The Colombian Navy, through the Navy Infantry Brigade No. 1, reaffirms its commitment to the security of the region and to the permanent operations that deny spaces in the Colombian Caribbean to organized armed groups. It in the same way invites people to report in a timely manner, to the authorities, any suspicious or criminal situation that disturbs the tranquility of the inhabitants in this important region of the country.
