Thanks to the solidarity and timely communication with the community, the Ninth Brigade of Colombian National Army, through the EXDE Delta Group and the 26th Cacique Pigoanza Infantry Battalion, neutralized the criminal acts of illegal armed structures in the municipalities of La Plata, department of Huila, and Itaibe, department of Cauca.
On the I-36 highway, a route that connects the municipality of La Plata, department of Huila, with the department of Cauca, and through the civic participation network, the troops were alerted about the activity of a strange element protruding of the terrain on the side of the road. Immediately, members of the army moved to the place and activated the security protocols in order to safeguard the integrity of the inhabitants.
As part of the preventive measures, the road axis was temporarily closed, restricting vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Subsequently, through the use of the anti-explosive trained dog, the reconnaissance of the area was carried out, leaving a positive result for stopping the activity of explosive elements.
With the use of their differential resources, the troops carried out a controlled detonation, neutralizing the explosive elements and leading the restoration of vehicular flow, thus providing a report of tranquility to the inhabitants and road users.
According to the preliminary assessment of anti-explosive experts, the device found did not have characteristics of high destructive power. Its composition and scope suggested that it was a low-capacity element, presumably intended to generate alarm and fear in the inhabitants.
Simultaneously, in the Potreritos village of the municipality of Itaibe, department of Cauca, and within the framework of search and area control activities carried out by the 26th Cacique Pigoanza Infantry Battalion, together with information provided by the community, it was possible to find a gas cylinder-type explosive device, which was destroyed by controlled detonation, preventing damages to the inhabitants and the troops.
These acts reaffirm the importance of citizen support, which by reporting any suspicious situation in a timely manner decisively contributes to the protection of life, security and the stability of law and order in the department of Huila and surrounding regions.
