Nariño. The Eighth World Water Forum (FMA) will take place from March 18 to 23 in the city of Brasilia (Brazil), which gathers different actors from around the world every three years to address international issues on the vital liquid.
The General Maritime Directorate (Dimar) was one of the institutions that participated in the call for research proposals, through the Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center (CIOH) of the Pacific, with the project: "Definition of climatic indicators for the prediction of the precipitation rates due to the El Niño phenomenon "; with which he joined the group of the twenty finalist initiatives of a total of 320 international contestant projects.
With this classification, the proposal presented by Dimar, in addition to receiving an economic incentive, will have the opportunity to presente its results in future editions of this international event.
The Dimar project is led by the researcher Ana Lucía Caicedo Laurido of the Operational Oceanography Area of the CIOH del Pacífico; has the advice of PhD Angel Muñoz of the International Research Institute for Climate and Society. The Earth Institute of the University of Columbia (United States), and of the anthropologist Nancy Motta of the Universidad del Valle (Colombia). The proposal is part of the projects linked to the National Technical Committee for the Study of the El Niño Phenomenon (CTN-ERFEN).
The World Water Forum consolidates, little by little, as one of the most important international events on the individual, as it becomes a setting for personalities of the political, academic and business spheres. The previous editions were fulfilled in the cities of Marrakech, The Hague, Kyoto, Mexico, Istanbul and South Korea; so this eighth edition in Brazil, has a special meaning to be the first in the southern hemisphere.
