In order to strengthen relations with the coastal communities and awaken in the youngest the interest in scientific research and the preservation of our oceans, the General Maritime Directorate (Dimar) through the Pacific Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center (CCCP) received the visit of 70 children of the Panama neighborhood in Tumaco, department of Nari帽o.
Through an interactive tour, talks and recreational activities, the children learned first-hand about the control, review and accompaniment operation carried out by the Colombian Maritime Authority in the Pacific region; in addition they received information related to the care of the ocean and the basic concepts of tsunami, mechanisms that mitigate the effects of this threat of sea origin and operations that safeguard human life.
Since this visit was made within the framework of children's day, the minors dressed in the costumes of the specialists and toured the CCCP facilities in order to learn about the work and operation of the areas of the center such as the Coastal Zone Management Section; Operational Oceanography and microbiology, biology and chemistry laboratories, from which sea life is protected and ocean pollution is prevented.
This event was supported by the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing (ICBF), which brought together the children of the Panama neighborhood and coordinated transportation to transfer them to the Center's facilities.
To Dimar, these visits represent an opportunity to present the good practices and broaden the gaze of the new generations towards the consolidation of Colombia as a maritime country.
