The illegal mining units produced 9,000 grams of gold per month, at a cost of 2,622,312,000 pesos.
Soldiers of the Special Energy and Road Battalion of the Fourth Brigade, in compliance with the strategic line of weakening the resources in the frame of the threat of the Ayacucho Operations Plan, found and destroyed in controlled conditions four mining production units, machinery, nine engines and four dredgers, which were used to illegally extract gold, on the Santo Domingo River, found in the village of El Remolino, municipality of Alejandría, Antioquia.
With the destruction of the material, it was possible to reduce the environmental impact caused by the deforestation of 600 trees and an area of 16,500 m3 of removed subsoil, the plants recovery time would be of 40 years, as well as the normal channel of the Santo Domingo River.
In the same way, the sources of financing of the so called Samaná Pacificadores Substructure are being hit, which hinders the criminal organization’s strengthening in its military and armed capacity, with the purpose of committing criminal operations against the Military Forces and the inhabitants.
