Ely, trained dog of Colombian National Army, found more than a ton of marijuana in the department of Quindio

Ely, canino del Ejército Nacional, halló más de una tonelada de marihuana en el Quindío

At a routine checkpoint it was possible for the troops of Colombian National Army and the Regional Anti-Narcotics Police No. 3 to find a truck loaded with narcotics, and in turn to make the arrest in flagrante delicto of the driver.

Within the framework of military operations aimed at countering the illicit activities of organized armed groups, troops of the High Mountain Battalion No. 5, attached to the Eighth Brigade of Colombian National Army, and the Anti-Narcotics Police, Regional No. 3, seized 1,250 kilograms of marijuana in the department of Quindío.

The operation was carried out at a checkpoint on the road axis conducted by Calarcá and Cajamarca, specifically in the sector of the tunnel of Anteojos, where the soldiers made the stop signal to a truck that was covering the route of the southwest of the country to the center of the national territory.

During the inspection to the car, which was transporting stucco sacks, a trained dog specialized in detecting narcotic substances was used.

Thanks to the expertise of the trained dog, an alert signal was issued about several sacks, 1450 packages containing approximately 1250 kilograms of marijuana were found by troops, which were hidden inside the stucco sacks, with an average of 4 kilograms per unit. This shipment, allegedly belonging to the residual GAO, Front 57 Yaír Bermúdez, would have as its final destination the city of Bogotá.

During the procedure, the driver of the vehicle was arrested in flagrante delicto for the crime of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics.

It is striking that each package had the mark: money or lead, with the image of the face of a drug dealer. This evidence is now part of the authority's investigation to identify the exact origin of the hallucinogen.

In the same way, the confiscation of the car was carried out, which was put together with the arrested man and the items found into custody of the authorities for their respective prosecution process, in coordination with the National Police.

By means of this result, Colombian National Army to a significant loss to the illicit activities of residual organized armed groups, weakening its logistical and financial resources.
