With the aim of strengthening training, implementing research and inter-institutional cooperation on climate change, the School of Military Engineers of the Military Education Center of Colombian National Army, in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, held the Meeting of Experiences in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation An Environmental Look.
This academic space was carried out within the framework of the commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the Master's Degree in Risk Management and Development, a program that has gained its position as a national and international benchmark in the preparation of specialists working for sustainability, security and resilience of the country.
Colombia is one of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change, with 80% of its people exposed to natural hazards and about 86% of the territory in risk areas. In this context, it is essential to integrate risk management and climate change adaptation into sustainable development plans.
During the activity, key topics such as damage and loss assessment, resilient construction, sustainable planning and environmental education were addressed. The presentations and working tables led to the identification of opportunities for cooperation, exchange of experiences and strengthening of technical and institutional resources, aimed at reducing vulnerability and protecting the strategic ecosystems of the country.
Through this type of initiatives, the School of Military Engineers reaffirms its commitment to scientific research, high-level training and solutions to address the environmental challenges of the present and the future.
