Through My Model Village strategy, more than 160 students of the New Jerusalem School, in the village Jerusalem of Florencia, Caquetá, benefit of the construction improvement carried out by the soldiers of the Comprehensive operation and Development Support Battalion No. 6.
This initiative, led by Colombian National Army and its Faith In Colombia program, seeks to transform living conditions and promote social and economic development in the most remote communities in Colombia. On this occasion, the joint work conducted by soldiers, teachers and parents led to significantly improve the learning spaces in this institution.
During four months of hard work, activities such as cleaning, painting, drain maintenance, planting seedlings and adequacy of the school garden were carried out. In addition, the soldiers supported the organization of a community bingo to increase funds for the ongoing maintenance of the institution.
Major Mauricio Muñoz Torres, commander of the Comprehensive operation and Development Support Battalion No. 6, highlighted: "Today we are benefiting this education center, improving the classrooms, the sports field and the school garden, thus contributing to the development and quality of life of these rural communities."
For her part, Magaly Yosa, president of the Parents' Council, expressed her gratitude: "We thank the soldiers for helping us improve New Jerusalem building. It is gratifying to see how the place where the children study becomes more and more welcoming."
Orlay Artunduaga, teacher in the school, in the same way recognized the impact of the initiative: "Thank you for this invaluable support, the 160 students now have more pleasant and safer spaces to learn."
Through this project, Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to the future and progress of the country, strengthening education in rural areas hit by violence and generating development opportunities for future generations in the most remote corners of Colombia.
