FAC transports 22 tons of humanitarian aid to San Andrés due to Tropical Storm Melissa

FAC transporta 22 toneladas de ayuda humanitaria a San Andrés por Tormenta Tropical Melissa

As a preventive measure, before the approach of Tropical Storm Melissa by Caribbean waters, 22 tons of humanitarian aid were transported on a Boeing 767 aircraft of the Military Air Transport Command, CATAM, from Bogotá to San Andrés, arranged by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, UNGRD.

The aircraft landed at the ramp of the Caribbean Air Group, GACAR, with non-perishable food kits and vulnerable first aid items, as preparation and prevention for possible emergencies that may arise due to the transit of the tropical storm in this area.

The Colombian Aerospace Force, as part of the National System for Disaster Risk Management, SNGRD, carried out this transport mission prioritizing the commitment to the well-being of the raizales , islanders and tourists, if necessary.

In the same way, together with the personnel of the Colombian Navy, the National Police and the Governorate of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, they will continue to monitor and carry out all the operations necessary in terms of prevention, with the purpose of timely alerting people to face any contingency that may arise due to significant climatic changes.
