Faced with the emergency generated by the heavy rains, the Colombian Navy transported more than 58 tons of humanitarian aid to the Colombian Pacific

Armada de Colombia transportó más de 58 toneladas de ayudas humanitarias al Pacífico colombiano

Through this operation, more than 16,500 people, who have been hit by this phenomenon, have benefited.

Among the transported aids are food, grooming kits, clothing, mats and items of first necessity.

In fulfillment of its constitutional mission and reaffirming its permanent commitment to the communities of the Pacific coast, the Colombian Navy has carried out two important humanitarian assistance operations, by transporting and distributing more than 58 tons of aid, aimed at mitigating the difficult situation faced by the villages hit by the rains in this region of the country.

The first operation was carried out on board the ARC Ship Bahía Colombia, which sailed from the municipality of Tumaco to Santa Bárbara de Iscuandé, in the department of Nariño, covering more than 120 nautical miles. During this mission, 20.2 tons of humanitarian aid were transported, including food, toilet kits, clothing, mats, school kits, water storage tanks and other first-aid items, directly benefiting approximately 6,500 people.

This operation was possible thanks to the coordinated work conducted by the Colombian Navy, the Government of Nariño, the National Federation of Departments and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), which achieved the collection, maritime transport and timely distribution of aid to the families.

The second operation was carried out on board the ARC Ship Bahía Solano, which sailed from the port of Buenaventura, department of Valle de Cauca, bound for the municipalities of Timbiquí and Guapi, in the department of Cauca, after sailing about 100 nautical miles. In this mission, 38.2 tons of humanitarian aid were transported, benefiting about 10,000 people hit by the intense rains and floods. Additionally, medical teams of the Colombian Air Patrol traveled to reinforce health care.

The mayors of Santa Bárbara de Iscuandé, Sifredo Barros Pinillos; of Guapi, Milena Grueso Moreno; and of Timbiquí, Kilian Cuero Ruíz, expressed their gratitude to the Sailors and navy men for their support, commitment and willingness to bring these aids to the neediest communities.
