More than 10 million cigarettes that would be distributed in the country were found by troops in this operation led by the Naval Institution.
In maritime control and security operations carried out by the Colombian Navy at the Buenaventura - TCBUEN Container Terminal, in the main Colombian Pacific port, smuggled merchandise, valued at more than 1,084 million pesos, was seized.
The container that, apparently, would have been loaded in a Central American port, arrived on a container ship at the port of Buenaventura, being identified with possible contraband merchandise. For this reason, crew members of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station, after verifying the information and carrying out the respective procedures to obtain the authorization of the opening of the container, proceeded to carry out the inspection.
For this procedure, the Naval Institution had the support of the military operations Group Anticontrabando – GOA del Valle del Cauca and the Directorate of National Taxes and Customs – DIAN, finding inside, 1,005 boxes of cigarettes of different brands with more than 10 million cigarettes.
During the review, it was identified that the merchandise did not have the permits for its entry into the country, and for its subsequent commercialization in the market. In the same way, it was determined that the tax obligations had not been fulfilled, since the corresponding tax payments had not been made, which entails possible sanctions and corrective measures by the authorities. The material was put into custody of the DIAN.

Durante la verificación, se identificó que la mercancía no contaba con los permisos requeridos tanto para su ingreso al país, como para su posterior comercialización en el mercado. Así mismo, se determinó que no se habían cumplido con las obligaciones fiscales, ya que los pagos correspondientes de impuestos no habían sido realizados, lo que conlleva posibles sanciones y medidas correctivas por parte de las autoridades competentes. El material fue puesto a disposición de la DIAN.
La Armada de Colombia a través del Cuerpo de Guardacostas, continuará adelantando este tipo de operaciones en los terminales portuarios, con el fin de colaborar con las autoridades aduaneras en la represión del contrabando, que golpea la economía del país al evadir los impuestos que se deben pagar por este tipo de productos.
