Finding of a minefield safeguarded the lives of the inhabitants and soldiers in the Catatumbo region

El hallazgo de un campo minado salvaguard贸 la vida de la poblaci贸n civil y soldados en El Catatumbo

The area would have been prepared by members of the illegal armed groups that commit crimes in the region, at the top of a highway.

Troops of the Command Against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats (CONAT), together with soldiers of the Second Division, found a mined area, apparently with a remote control activation system, in the village of Versalles in the municipality of Tib煤.

This minefield was made of 8 40-kilo gas cylinders loaded with explosives, 300 meters of two wire cable and 16 electric detonators. Once verified, the military personnel of the MARTE Group proceeded to carry out its destruction in controlled conditions.

Once again, the lives of the inhabitants were put at risk, violating human rights and violating international humanitarian law, which has become a systematic practice of armed groups outlaw.

Colombian National Army continues to conduct Operation Catatumbo, with the mission of safeguarding and protecting the inhabitants of this region of the Department of Norte de Santander, in the face of the violence generated by the organized armed groups in that region of the country.
