arc_foto_incautacion_san_andres_1.jpg

So far this year, the Colombian Navy has found 265 tons of cocaine hydrochloride, 8.4 tons have been found in the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.

In the Archipelago of San Andrés and Providencia, in a combined operation conducted by the military Forces of Colombia and the United States, 1,235 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were found by troops; the drug was transported in a Go Fast type boat that intended to reach Central America.

In a joint and combined way, the Navy and the Aerospace Forces, detected a suspicious boat transiting through the waters of the Archipelago and, once its course was identified, a Maritime Task Force consisting of naval resources of the Caribbean Naval Force was deployed, who after a prolonged pursuit intercepted the ship manned by five Colombians. The Colombian sailors secured the area and when carrying out the visit and inspection procedure, they found 48 bags and 40 loose rectangular packages with the suspicious substance inside the boat.

Subsequently, the boat and its crew were taken to the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés, where in coordination with units of the Judicial Police - SIJIN, carried out the Approved Preliminary Identification Test to the substance leaving positive result for 1,235 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.

The five arrested and the narcotic, which would cost more than US $41,619,000 on the international illegal market, were put into custody of the Judicial Police, in accordance with the Colombian legislation.
