In a coordinated work of State institutions in the Department of the Archipelago
These shelters were built with wood immunized for high humidity conditions and roofs with high impact resistance.
The Colombian Navy, in a coordinated work with the Government of the Department of the Archipelago, the Maritime General Directorate - DIMAR, the Ombudsman's Office and the Office of the Inspector General of the Nation, carried out the adaptation of five shelters used by fishermen as shelters, during the long activities carried out on the Cayo Pescador Bolívar Island, in the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.
For more than 15 days, crew members of the Naval Institution supported this activity in which an improvement of the rudimentary structures historically used by fishermen was carried out, with the purpose of protecting the life and good physical condition of this community, in the face of the difficult climatic conditions that can occur in this region in the different months of the year, such as heavy winds, rains and high temperatures.
These shelters, with a shelter capacity for approximately 40 people, were built with immunized wood to resist high humidity conditions and prevent pest attacks. In addition, they have 1,000-liter tanks for rainwater collection, roofs with high impact resistance and low heat and noise transmission, as well as wide openings for ventilation and adequate spaces for cooking and resting.
The Colombian Navy reaffirms its commitment to the island and raizal people who live in this territory, working for their well-being, their human and ancestral rights, including fishing, an activity of great historical and cultural importance in the department of the Archipelago.
