More than five thousand inhabitants of the Colombian Caribbean were benefited thanks to this initiative led by the Colombian Navy.
During a week, the ARC Golfo de Morrosquillo visited six communities bringing health and well-being.
The Colombian Navy, in coordination with various public and private institutions, successfully completed the fourth Insular Christmas campaign, an initiative that, during the Christmas season, seeks to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable communities in the insular area of Cartagena.
By December 02 and 09, the Amphibious Landing Ship ARC Golfo de Morrosquillo and a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coast Guard Station of Cartagena, sailed more than 240 nautical miles to bring humanitarian assistance to the families of six island communities: Bocachica, Caño del Oro, Isla Fuerte, Isla Grande, Punta Arena and Tierra Bomba.
Within the framework of this campaign, 2,400 presents, seven wheel chairs for people with reduced mobility, three computers and 800 boxes of food supplement were distributed. In addition, awareness-raising talks were held on nutrition, prevention of gunpowder burns and dengue prevention, promoting the comprehensive well-being of these communities.
It is worth mentioning the participation of the Andrés Bedoya Foundation, recognized for its mission to bring smiles back to the most remote corners of Colombia, who joined the Insular Christmas campaign for the first time.
With his work, 74 people received new teeth, transforming their lives by recovering their confidence. This gesture, the result of a deep human and professional commitment, enhanced the spirit of the campaign, demonstrating how coordinated work can positively impact the most vulnerable regions.
The fourth edition of Insular Christmas was successfully held thanks to the support of the Mayor's Office of Cartagena and the commitment of various public and private organizations such as Atún Van Camps, Carnecol Torices, Dadis, Distriseguridad, Andrés Bedoya Foundation, Amigos del Mar Foundation, YesWeServe Foundation, Interaseo, Marion Ve, Medihelp, Megastores, Súper Giros, among others.
The campaign ended in Isla Fuerte, with a medical assistance activity, which led to contributing to the well-being of these communities and reaffirmed the commitment of the Naval Institution, the participating institutions and the volunteers who joined this cause, to continue generating spaces of support for the most vulnerable communities.
The Colombian Navy, through the Caribbean Naval Force, will continue to carry out these types of initiatives in order to contribute to the comprehensive development of the island communities of this area of the country. It in the same way invites companies in the region to join these activities, which have the sole purpose of improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.
