Troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) - Nariño, in coordination with the National Police and the investigation unit of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, carried out an anti-extortion operation in which they arrested 20 individuals, among them important ringleaders of this criminal organization.
The criminal activity of the criminal structure consisted of the collection of money from extortions of the merchants of Ipiales, in Nariño, drug trafficking, migrant trafficking, contraband of goods and selective homicides.
Among the arrested there are three individuals; they are alias Alambre, alias El Flaco and alias Sello, who would be the perpetrators of homicides in the municipality of Ipiales, where victims such as Kelvis Alexander Coronil Castañeda, July 30, 2021; Edwin Nolberto Beltran Portilla, August 5, 2021; Byron Fernando Lopez Gaviria, August 21, 2021; and Yeimi Susana Tello Nandar, October 20, 2021, were reported.
This operation is the result of eight months of investigative and intelligence work by the personnel or this unit, who have decisively directed their efforts to strike at illicit activities and anything that generates factors of instability in inhabitants.
It should be noted that the operation found three firearms, 49 9 mm cartridges, five 3.8 mm cartridges, three fragmentation grenades, a ballistic vest and 15 units of mobile equipment.
