The General Maritime Directorate (Dimar), through the Port Authority of Bahía Solano, led two cleaning activities in the beaches Nuquí and Bahía Solano, in order to contribute to the care and protection of the coastal spaces of the Pacific in the department of Chocó within the framework of the tourist and economic reactivation of the country.

These activities seek to encourage the inhabitants, tourists, institutions, and other authorities for the care, protection and conservation of the coasts; in the same way, to adopt behaviors that increase the sense of belonging and strengthen responsible tourism in the region.

During the first activity, which was carried out in Playa Nuquí in coordination with the Vice Ministry of Tourism within the framework of the “Clean Colombia” program, it was possible to collect 1,300 kilograms of usable and non-usable waste, such as: plastic, polystyrene, cans, wood, glass, among others, which were stored in bags for final disposition.

On the other hand, through the second cleaning activity, 300 kilograms of plastic were collected from Bahía Solano beach, in a coordinated work with the Natura Foundation within the framework of the project “Free Beach, Zero Waste”.

Thanks to the positive response and effort of the institutions and the community, it is possible to collect solid waste not typical of the coastal environment; additionally, to contribute to the care of the environment through activities of cleaning, awareness and organization.

The Colombian Maritime Authority will continue to lead cleaning activities in the coastal areas; in the same way, coordinating efforts to ensure the protection and conservation of these spaces, and in turn, responsible tourism services.
