In Guain铆a, the National Army seized the largest shipment of Coltan in the country

This cargo would have a cost of more than two billion pesos.

In the course of a territorial control operation by troops of the National Army, in a joint and coordinated manner with the Navy and the police, it was possible to find about six tons of black sands with coltan, in the waters of the Guaviare River, Department of Guain铆a, border area with Venezuela.

In addition to that cargo, approximately 1,225 kilograms of special sand from alluvial raft mining residue were found by troops. These minerals would have a cost of more than 2,400 million pesos.

The confiscated material belonged to the residual organized armed group, GAO-r, Acacio Medina, and was found when a search was carried out on a vessel from the municipality of Mit煤, Vaup茅s. This boat contained small canvas bags without the required documentation, sail permits or accreditation issued by the Ministry of transport to travel with this type of materials. The material found and the ship were put into custody of the authority in accordance with the rules described in law 685 of 2001 against the exploration and illegal exploitation of Mines.

In Colombia, coltan, a mineral that is used for the production of batteries and technological equipment, is not used. Currently and illegally individuals intend to take this mineral through the border area with Brazil and Venezuela to be taken to countries such as Germany, Belgium, Kazakhstan and the United States.
