National Army troops destroyed machinery and supplies used for the illegal exploitation of mining sites, protecting the strategic resources and water sources of the region.
Within the framework of the military operations, framed in the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, and in strict compliance with the strategic objective Amazonia, troops of the Mountain Battalion N.° 6, attached to the Second Brigade, reported neutralization of an important construction specialized to illicit mining in the village el Cenizo, municipality of Ciénaga, department of Magdalena.
The powerful actions against the instability factors affecting natural resources led to the finding and subsequent destruction of 2 backhoe loaders, a Cummins-type engine, 6 motor pumps, 2 classifiers, 250 gallons of fuel and 600 meters of hose.
Through this result of the military operation, the illicit activities that finance the criminal structures of the region are directly hit. The illicit complex reported an estimated extraction of 100 to 150 grams of gold per day, which retained criminal income exceeding 2700 million pesos per month.
In addition to the millionaire financial blow dealt, the operation stops the irreversible environmental damage that these elements were causing to local ecosystems and the main water sources that supply the communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
