Heavy blow to dissidents, National Army troops seized a ton of cocaine in the department of Nariño

Duro golpe a disidencias, tropas del Ejército Nacional incautaron una tonelada de cocaína en Nariño

In an operation in the department of Nariño, Colombian National Army with units of the Command Against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats (CONAT) broke up a mass drug production laboratory belonging to the organized armed group Comandos de Frontera (GAO-r 48).

The operation was carried out in the village of Santa Brigada, municipality of Córdoba. At the scene, the troops and the Judicial Police found: a ton of cocaine ready to be shipped to Central and North America, 1035 gallons of liquid chemical supplies, industrial machinery and stickers to identify the shipments. The laboratory had the capacity to produce up to two tons of drugs per month.

The investigation revealed that this armed group was not acting alone, given that it has alliances with cartels in Mexico and distribution networks in Europe. The narcotics are taken from the department of Nariño to Esmeraldas - Ecuador, there, they hid it in cargo containers to send it by sea to Central America, Mexico and the United States.

Through this operation, the Army obtains an economic loss of more than 5000 million pesos (about 1.47 million dollars) and prevents the marketing of one million doses of cocaine.

Through this type of acts, the finances of illegal armed groups are directly weakened and security in the southwest of the country is strengthened, demonstrating the commitment to the inhabitants of Colombia and allied countries.
