On the Day of the Hero of the Nation and their Families, the service, legacy and commitment of those who have dedicated their lives to protect Colombia is recognized; in addition, a hopeful message is sent to those who are deprived of liberty.
Every July 19, Colombia commemorates the Day of the Hero of the Nation and their Families, a date established by Law 913 of 2004 to recognize the honor, courage and vocation of service of the men and women of the Military Forces, as well as the fundamental role of their families in the commitment to the Nation.
In this commemoration, the Ministry of National Defense and the General Command of the Military Forces led the recognition of those who today continue to fulfill the constitutional mission of protecting Colombians; in addition to embracing the families of the members of the Military Forces who are today kidnapped by groups outlaw, and for whom we are tirelessly working for their early rescue; preserving the memory of those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
Under the concept "Colombia honors those who serve and have served the Nation with honor," it seeks to strengthen citizen recognition for those who, on behalf of the Colombian National Army, the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Aerospace Force and the National Police, have dedicated their lives in the service of the country.
Serving Colombia is a decision that transcends the uniform. It is a vocation that is reflected in the protection of life, the defense of sovereignty, emergency care, support for communities and the permanent commitment to the security and well-being of Colombians.
The commemoration in the same way recognizes the families of the members of the Military Forces, whose support, strength and accompaniment have been fundamental in each mission, becoming an essential part of that history of service to the Nation.
