As of very early this Sunday, Air Combat Command crews No. 4 a Huey II helicopter was sent to support the efforts to extinguish the forest fire that is occurring in the San Barloto – Los Curos sector, municipality of Nilo, department of Cundinamarca; the operation is being carried out in coordination with the National Fire Directorate of Colombia and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management.
The conditions of the terrain, characterized by its difficult access, the high thermal conditions and the heavy winds, have limited the work of the brigades on the ground, which made it necessary to activate air resources to contain the emergency.
Through the Bambi Bucket system, the helicopter has made water drops mixed with retardant liquid, more than 3,500 gallons have already been poured, with the aim of reducing the spread of fire and mitigating risks to the community, fauna, flora and natural resources of the region.
The Colombian Aerospace Force reiterated its call to citizens to comply with the recommendations of the authorities, prevent uncontrolled burns and assume fire prevention as a shared responsibility.
