Humanitarian Demining Engineer Battalion No.5 presents safe path to people of Baraya, Huila

Batallón de Ingenieros de Desminado Humanitario N.°5 entregan camino seguro a comunidad de Baraya, Huila

In an important achievement for the security and development of the region, the Humanitarian Demining Engineer Battalion No. 5, of the Ninth Brigade, presented to the people of La Libertad, municipality of Baraya, a completely safe inter hamlet road.

 

During the humanitarian demining work, the demining experts found and destroyed in controlled conditions six anti-personnel mines and one hand grenade or unexploded ordnance, which represented a serious threat to the inhabitants.

 

After the hard work of demining, this important road route is now free of suspicion, which gives safety and well-being to the inhabitants of the area.

 

The liberation of this paths brings multiple benefits for the people of La Libertad, benefits that today result in greater security to travel with tranquility and safe access to land, improving the extraction of agricultural products and wood, and thus boosting their economy.

 

The distribution was made through the president of the Communal operation Board of the hamlet, who on behalf of the people expressed their gratitude for this work that transforms their lives, benefiting about 63 families (400 people).

 

Through this activity, the 5th Humanitarian Demining Engineer Battalion reaffirms its commitment to the construction of peace and the comprehensive development of the most vulnerable communities. The military institution will continue working hand in hand with the civil authorities and the communities for a country free of anti-personnel mines where all Colombians can live in harmony.
