Illegal aircraft is intercepted and forced to land by Colombian Air Force fighter jets

In the afternoon of January 15, 2021, the National Air Defense System detected an illegal trace coming from the Venezuelan border and heading the Colombian airspace. Immediately, the Colombian Air Force fighter jets conducted the air interception procedure, identifying a twin-engine aircraft and forcing it to land in Puerto Carreño, in the department of Vichada.

During the operation, which was conducted from the Command and Control Center of the Colombian Air Force in Bogota, and the Air Group of the East, in Vichada, it was determined that not only the aircraft was not flying on an airway, but also that it had no flight plan and did not called the Air Traffic Service institutions, which put at risk the safety of civil aircraft that were in the area. That is considered a violation of the sovereignty, so it was classified as a suspicious aircraft.

The PT-KFN Brazilian aircraft, type Piper PA-23-250 Azteca, was intercepted by implementing international air interception protocols and was forced to land in Germán Olano Airport in Puerto Carreño, where, in coordination with the National Police, it was possible to capture two Brazilian crew members.

The aircraft was immobilized and put into custody of the authorities. Consequently, the Attorney General's office is already conducting the investigation.
