Thanks to the management of the Departmental Government of Quindío before the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, UNGRD, today 20 soldiers of the 90th Special Operations Engineer Battalion, including bridge operators and technicians, have advanced 80% in the installation of a 4 m modular bridge with 398 m, which will benefit more than 3000 people of the village of El Calabazo Alto.
Second Sergeant Daniel Sánchez, bridge officer of this military unit, mentions that these members of the Military Forces have differential resources in the process of building bridges, which leads them to take the bridges to any part of the national territory. In this case, heavy machinery was required such as trucks, lowboy trailer, excavator and forklifts, fundamental resources to fulfill the mission in an estimated time of eight days.
For his part, Daniel Gómez, vice president of Communal Action, highlighted that Colombian National Army has shown interest in the people and that this is an achievement obtained thanks to the coordinated work conducted by several institutions. He in the same way highlighted the importance of this sector for its productive, social and tourist capacity. In the same way, the gratitude of the people is reflected in the words of Mr. Hector Murcia Cañón, inhabitant of the village El Calabazo Alto, who said that this work will enable them to take out agricultural products and transport precursors to the farms. This is in the same way the case of Mrs. Zulaida Vargas García, who spoke about the dangers they faced when crossing the river and assured that, after the inauguration of the bridge, her life and that of all the people will significantly change.
On the other hand, during the execution of the work, soldiers of the High Mountain Battalion N.° 5 carry out security tasks in the sector, in order to work so that the installation of the bridge is carried out without mishaps. In this way, Colombian National Army continues to contribute to the development and well-being of the coffee growers region.
