La Guajira, Antioquia and Santander, have new decontaminated municipalities

Mine clearance specialists of the National Army, presented seven municipalities free of suspicion of anti-personnel mines.

 

The protocolary ceremony that was held in the municipality of San Luis, Antioquia, was attended by military authorities, police, inhabitants and mayors of the decontaminated regions.

 

Among the declared territories are: Fonseca (La Guajira), Charta and El Pe帽贸n (Santander), San Luis, Alejandr铆a, Necocl铆 and San Juan de Urab谩 (Antioquia).

 

That means it is an area of 866,477 square meters that houses about 130,000 inhabitants residing in rural and urban zones.

 

In the course of the work, the mine clearance specialists destroyed 75 explosive devices, preventing accidents and incidents in the streets.

 

Punctually in the municipality of Fonseca, La Guajira, eight Non-Technical Study teams of the Humanitarian Demining Engineers Battalion No.4, freed more than 16,000 square meters of suspected anti-personnel mines, including the ethnic territories such as the Mayabangloma indigenous reservation.

 

The members of the Military Forces continue to conduct their mission in the different departments to declare Colombia free of suspected anti-personnel mines.
