4800 million fake dollars were found by troops hidden in a barrel, a grainy metal package simulating gold, two traumatic rifles, a Renault Megane vehicle, a Boxer motorcycle and military accessories and communications equipment used for terrorist activities.
Units of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the Twenty-Ninth Brigade of Colombian National Army, in coordination with the Gaula of the National Police, reported in the last few hours the arrest of six alleged members of the Los Comapán gang and the rescue of three citizens in the village of Quintana, municipality of Popayán, department of Cauca.
The military operation was reported through a search process. In addition to the arrests and the rescue of the victims, it was possible to find two traumatic rifles, a communication radio, six cell phones, a grainy metal package that was prepared to be seen as gold, a barrel with fake dollars, a gray Renault Megane vehicle, a black Boxer motorcycle and abundant material of military accessories, including camouflage uniforms, carrier vests, and other garments for exclusive use of the Military Forces.
Those arrested would belong to the organized common crime group Los Comapan, responsible for multiple cases of kidnapping and extortion under the modality of false service in the metropolitan area of Popayan, which has become a factor of high insecurity in the region.
According to the investigations, these individuals are allegedly involved in the financing of criminal activities and in the simulation of belonging to organized crime structures, such as the FARC dissidents, to beat people in Cauca and other areas of the country.
The victims had traveled from the interior of Colombia to meet with an alleged investor interested in supporting their construction project in the municipality, being deceived through the modus operandi of false service, a modality of extortive kidnapping that takes advantage of citizen's good faith through deception and psychological manipulation. This type of crime usually involves the participation of criminal networks from prison establishments, outsourcing the execution of the kidnapping.
Those arrested were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office. In hearings before a judge of control of commitments, five of them received measure in prison establishment, and one, was put in non-custodial measure of freedom.
