The former human rights representative of the municipality of Tamalameque, department of Cesar, Yennis Salazar Zabaleta, was rescued in rural area of El Carmen, department of Norte de Santander, as a result of a coordinated operation conducted by the Colombian Aerospace Force, National Police and the Attorney General's Office of the Nation.
During the operation, carried out within the framework of the Thor strategy, the specialized units executed tactical maneuvers and a thorough control of the terrain that led to finding the victim, so working to increase his integrity and without generating additional risks. After her extraction, she was transferred to a safe place and medically assessed, and then reunited with her family.
The kidnapping occurred on February 21, 2025, when armed members of the Camilo Torres Restrepo Front of the ELN intercepted the woman in a rural area near Chimichagua and Curumaní; that same day an incinerated vehicle was found on the Las Vegas–Saloa road, the point where the detention would have occurred. The captors demanded $15,000 million pesos for her release; but today, thanks to inter-institutional work, Yennis is free and in good health.
