More than 100 rescue soldiers are part of the human and technical deployment in the departments of Córdoba, Santander and Magdalena.
In the midst of one of the most complex rainy seasons that the country has experienced in recent years, the Military Engineers of Colombian National Army have conducted for several days a comprehensive operation aimed at protecting and safeguarding the lives of thousands of Colombians.
In the department of Córdoba, in the municipalities of Valencia, San Pelayo and Montería, uninterrupted operations have been carried out during the last five days, which have combined physical effort, technical knowledge and humanitarian vocation. 1,036 people have been evacuated there, of which 909 are adults and 127 are minors. In the same way, more than 380 animals, including domestic and farm animals, have been evacuated.
As part of the mitigation actions, a retaining wall was in the same way built in the municipality of San Pelayo, a work that today directly protects the lives of 600 people. In parallel, six tons of humanitarian aid have been distributed, immediately alleviating the basic necessities of the communities.
On the other hand, in Santander, the operation of the Military Engineers took place at the Piedras Negras dam, a strategic source of water for the region. Cleaning, decontamination and risk mitigation works have been carried out there, protecting the water supply of 46,000 people.
Similarly, in the municipality of Lebrija, village of Vanegas, complex search and rescue efforts were carried out, and first aid was provided to eight adults and two minors, carrying out the airborne evacuation of four adults and three minors. Three tons of humanitarian aid have been distributed to this area and 22 cubic meters of sludge and debris were removed.
This report of the military operation is a reflection of an effort that goes beyond numbers. Behind every evacuation, every wall erected and every kilo of aid distributed there are soldiers who understand their mission as a service to the country and its people.
Colombian National Army, through its Military Engineers, ratifies its unwavering commitment to the Colombian people, working without a pause to protect life, reduce risk and restore hope in the midst of adversity.
