Military engineers support the evacuation of families in the locality of San Cristóbal

Ingenieros Militares apoyan labores de evacuación de familias en la localidad de San Cristóbal

The Army's Disaster Care and Prevention Engineer Brigade supports monitoring, damage assessment and evacuation of families due to mass movement in the locality of San Cristóbal, Bogotá.

A team of 15 members of the Military Forces, experts in disaster response, are there supporting the District Institute of Risk Management and Climate Change and the local authorities, in a mass movement that leaves four critical points under monitoring at the moment, so it became necessary to evacuate several families.

Due to the heavy rains that have been occurring for several days in Bogotá, an emergency occurred in the south of the city.

So far eight families were evacuated of their homes due to a mass movement over the eastern hills.

In an inter-institutional work conducted by the Brigade of Engineers of Assistance and Prevention of Disasters of Colombian National Army, the District Institute of Risk Management and Climate Change, Firefighters, Civil Defense, the people's Representative for human rights, the local mayor's office and the Police, there is constant and permanent monitoring of this area.

In the same way, a team of Colombian National Army is conducting the assessment of the damages generated.

They in the same way supported the people who were hit to evacuate some belongings of their houses. They in the same way helped transport them to a shelter set up by the district authorities to house them until the emergency passes. Due to the magnitude of the damage, members of the Military Forces will remain in the area as they will be on the ground and thus be able to alert other families that, if necessary, should in the same way be evacuated to safeguard their lives.

A permanent Unified Command post was installed in the area, to evaluate, monitor and supervise the operations that each authority has under its responsibility. Colombian National Army's Disaster Care and Prevention Engineer Brigade sent its differential resources according to its specialty, such as search and rescue, evacuation of people, humanitarian aid, debris and sludge management, as well as mobility and security.
