In the course of a joint and coordinated operation conducted by the Colombian Navy, the National Army, the Air Force and the Attorney General's office, it was possible to arrest alias Popeye, an alleged member and explosives expert of the organized armed group, residual - structure 10, when he was conducting criminal intelligence to attack the Military Forces' facilities in Casanare.
Alias Popeye who was arrested in the urban area of the municipality of Aguazul, Casanare, was in charge of the manufacture of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs); in addition to carrying out extortion and cohesion activities to collect money from vaccines (extortions) against civilians, especially in the area of Isla Reynera, in the Department of Arauca.
This person, who was the right-hand man of alias Nano ringleader of the aforementioned organization outlaw, had an arrest warrant for the crimes of association to commit aggravated crimes, terrorism, and manufacturing, trafficking or carrying firearms for the exclusive use of the military forces and illicit methods and means of war.
During the operation, communications equipment was found and put into custody of the judicial authority.
It is noteworthy that the Colombian Navy this year has arrested 11 members of the residual organized armed groups that commit crimes in the region who do not permit the economic and social development of the inhabitants of the region.
