A joint operation conducted by Colombian National Army and the Colombian Navy, in a house that was being used as an illegal hiding place for explosives, led to the rescue of a minor, who was being held illegally by members of the GAO Clan del Golfo.
In the midst of a search and control operations, troops of the Fifteenth Brigade of Colombian National Army, together with the River Infantry Battalion N°16 of the National Navy, under the direction of the Joint Task Force Titan, in the municipality of Riosucio, department of Chocó, rescued a minor 12 years old, who would be held by the Pablo José Montalvo Cuitiva substructure of the organized armed group GAO Clan del Golfo. The girl was put into custody of the authority for the establishment of rights.
According to the first information, the minor was in a state of vulnerability and risk, so the troops acted in accordance with the protocols to hand over the girl to the Children and Adolescents Police, and to the family commissariat where she is receiving the relevant assistance.
Thus, due to an exhaustive investigation, in order to combat the criminal operations of the GAO Clan del Golfo, and its criminal structure with interference in the departments of Chocó and Antioquia, it was possible to find this house, used as an illegal hiding place for explosives.
There were found by troops two gas cylinders, which were to be used as explosive devices, one of them was installed under the building. In addition, 34 improvised explosive devices were found by troops at the site that would have the objective of attacking the inhabitants and the Military Forces, this being a flagrant violation of International Humanitarian Law.
During this operation, four members of this substructure voluntarily surrendered, who, upon seeing the work of the Military Forces, expressed their will to surrender to justice and become part of the program of the Humanitarian Assistance Group for the Demobilized of the Ministry of National Defense.
It is important to emphasize the coordinated work conducted by the Military Forces in coordination with the National Police and inter-institutional with the Governorates and Majors of the departments of Antioquia and Chocó department through the programs that leads to mitigate the problem against individuals of special protection, the fight against sexual exploitation and abuse.
