Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, the Colombian Military Forces, together with the Colombian National Army and Navy, have immediately directed their military, logistical and human operations resources to provide support in the climate emergency caused by the cold front in the Colombian Caribbean.
In the department of Córdoba, the soldiers of the Eleventh Brigade of Colombian National Army provide humanitarian support to hundreds of families hit by the increasing wave of rains, with special emphasis on the riverside villages of the Sinú and San Jorge rivers.
Troops of the Infantry battalions N°33 Junín, N°40 Rifles and the Combat Support and Services Battalion N°11, have prioritized the evacuation of citizens with reduced mobility and elderly people. In the same way, in an inter-institutional effort with the Civil Defense and local authorities, the distribution of more than 3,000 humanitarian assistance, 100 feeding kits, and 100 grooming kits has taken place.
These acts are concentrated in the rural areas of Canalete, Montelíbano, La Apartada and Puerto Escondido, in addition to maintaining surveillance on the road route that connects Montería with Arboletes, department of Antioquia.
For its part, the Colombian Navy, through the Caribbean Naval Force, has focused its efforts on the municipality of Lorica, department of Córdoba. Crew members of the Navy Infantry Battalion N°14 and the Sucre Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) are working hard on the construction of containment barriers by filling sacks, seeking to mitigate the impact of the overflow of the Sinu River.
The Naval Institution has arranged specialized vehicles for the transfer of victims to care centers, safeguarding the integrity of the inhabitants in the sectors of Cotocá Arriba, Sarandelo and Sabá Island, areas with critical increases in water levels.
Currently, the military units actively participate in the Unified Command Post (PMU) of the Department of Córdoba. From this space, strategies are coordinated with risk management organizations and government institutions to work towards a comprehensive and timely response to the contingency.
Through these acts, the Colombian Military Forces reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the protection of life and the well-being of communities, operating uninterruptedly in the most vulnerable areas of the country.
