The operation led to the finding and destruction of more than 13 thousand gallons of fuel.
Within the framework of a joint and inter-institutional operation conducted by the Colombian Navy, Colombian National Army, the Colombian Aerospace Force and the Attorney General's Office, it was possible to find and destroy a rudimentary refinery used for the illegal production of fuels, in the rural area of the village of Brisas del Río, municipality of Orito, department of Putumayo.
Thanks to intelligence information provided by the Amazonas Fusion Center, units of Navy Infantry River Battalion No. 30 of the Colombian Navy, together with National Army personnel and the Prosecutor's Office, found the illegal structure, in which 13,208 gallons of petroleum, a distillation tower type tank and a petroleum storage pool were found by troops, the elements were destroyed in controlled conditions in the area.
According to the preliminary investigations, the rudimentary refinery allegedly belongs to the Residual Organized Armed Group - GAOr- Comandos de Frontera – Coordinadora Nacional Ejército Bolivariano, a criminal structure specialized in financing its illicit activities through the production and commercialization of fuel derivatives. Through this operation, it was possible to deal an economic damage exceeding 95 million pesos, significantly weakening its financial capacity.
It should be noted that, in 2025, the Amazonas Naval Force has destroyed 168 illegal laboratories and refineries. It has in the same way obtained important results such as the finding of more than four tons of cocaine hydrochloride, about 16 tons of marijuana, more than two tons of solid coca, more than two tons of coca base, 93,122 gallons of liquid supplies and approximately 59 tons of solid precursors for cocaine production, in addition to 51 units of machinery used in illicit activities. All this, within its area of responsibility, which includes the departments of Caquetá, department of Amazonas, department of Putumayo, department of Meta and department of Guaviare, contributing directly to the safety of the inhabitants and the protection of the environment.
