Military forces help in winter emergency in Putumayo

Soldiers of the Sixth Division of the National Army, of the Support Command of Comprehensive action and Development, and the Colombian Air Force, attended the call of the community of Mocoa.

Putumayo. Once the alarms began to sound due to the heavy rains that struck the capital city of Putumayo and originated the increase of the water levels of the Mulato river and the Taruca, Taruquita, Campucana and Conejo streams, the Sixth Division through the Twenty-seventh Jungle Brigade, with the Construction Brigade and the Command of Comprehensive action and Development assisted the inhabitants of Mocoa with the capabilities of the National Army to deal with the emergency.

At the unified command post in the Governorship of Putumayo, it was established to deploy the Risk Management Company of the Military Engineers Battalion No. 27 'General Manuel Castro Bayona', to attend the preventive evacuation in the neighborhoods of San Agust铆n and San Miguel.

In the same way, with an aircraft of the Colombian Air Force, a flight was made over the basins of the water tributaries in order to evaluate the level of the water and determine the measures to be taken.

Bridges will in the same way be monitored and the status of the aqueducts will be checked, as well as the sewers to evaluate the drainage process and prevent situations such as the avalanche of March 31, 2017.

Finally, through the National Risk and Disaster Management Unit, resources will be assigned for the execution of mitigation works in Mocoa and military engineers will analyzed how they can contribute to build them.
